Before revisiting the Dandelion Portal in a stained version this month, I scaled things back down and created dozens of 5.5 inch prototypes to test out colors combinations. The idea is that these prototypes are also miniature works of art that can double as drink coasters (a good test of my finishing methods).

The Dandelion portal above is displaying some great lighting effects. The 12 inch Lava Portal II is a color test for the 24 inch one I plan to make next month.
